Unfortunately, I had heard a bad story about iPod batteries. Unreplacable. Not covered under warranty. Customer service told the customer to just buy another one.
Not sure how that’s working out for Apple, but I’m guessing ok since there hasn’t been a design change.

Here’s a class action lawsuit brewing against apple for the irreplacable interior battery:

congrats! my music need when i run approaches junkie proportions. without it i am truly just lumpish. but this post gives me hope. :)
and yeah the ipod battery deal sucks. there’s even a little web-commercial about it with some angry ipod customer spray-painting information about the bad battery over ipod ads and things. heh.

Not as tough as it seems really, check this site for info.

That’s for 1st and 2nd gen iPods, includes a battery, tool and replacement instructions. Not bad for 40 bucks to resurrect your original battery life. :)
To be honest, the batteries last quite a long time if they are treated right- discharged complete on occassion and charged up to 100% immediately afterwards. This tends to help extend the battery life of li-ion batteries.

Oh yes, here’s for the 3rd gen. And I was wrong on price, it’s 22 bucks.
