That’s quite an extraordinary thought. Of course, with the complexity of any modern field, knowing it all is not even a possibility. But to derive comfort from that knowledge, well that’s just quite lovely! I think I’ll give it some more thought to see if I can do the same!

When I was in college I loved talking to the math guys...once they were drunk.  Mostly because it seemed as if their logic got so much more creative and entertaining.

It was Euler, not David Hilbert.  At least I’m pretty sure it was Euler, though there’s a small chance it was Gauss.  I liked that room--it was very easy to keep clean.  And it enforced a certain minimalism, which helped me when I moved to Manhattan five years later.
