I particularly like your point, as it does come down to you who are inside and who you choose to surround yourself with.  I had a simliar experience at TCU with the “rich kids who couldn’t go to Ivy League” and though it took a while to find my niche, but it was well worth it.

Why is it that people from “the city” think everywhere else is so easy? Even in this small redneck town I live in you have to play the game. The rules are different from place to place but one thing remains constant, if you don’t know how to play you will end up looking like a fool pretty quick.

I must admit I got sucked into the game when I lived in the city once but it didn’t take me long to realize that I am not that kind of person. I prefer to observe, outside looking in if you will. I have carried that with me into small town USA and it has worked well for me so far. Know just enough to be dangerous but not so much that you get into the competition.

Ugh.  New Yorkers.  Aren’t they the people who don’t figure this shit out until they are 75 years old, surrounded in money but not a friend or companion in sight? 

I count myself lucky to have learned at a young age that there are important lessons and non-important ones.  I’m not saying I’m educated yet, but at least I know what to study.
