Have a good trip my dear...I hope your Mom’s relocation is smooth and joyful.
I too spent some time at Farrells. As a kid it was all about the little plastic animals in The Zoo. As a teenager it was all about what we could get away with stealing...one of my friends actually got out of there with one of the glass globes that covered the wall sconces. None of us saw him take it and he didn’t get caught. We were impressed. We were annoying thieving teen punks that got 86ed from Farrells eventually.

Here’s hoping you have a wonderful and safe trip...and a reminder to bring your bug spray ‘cause the skiters are the size of mocking birds down here!

We had this pseudo-Mexican food place called Casa Bonita in Denver. The food was awful, but they have live entertainment and indoor “cliff diving” and all sorts of other kitschy Mexican crap. We begged and pleaded to have our parties there and go for other kids’. SH and I nearly split a gut when Casa Bonita was immortalized last season by South Park. They really captured the spirit of the thing.

have a wonderful trip dan!
hope you enjoy south fla and the time with your maman. :)

Every party I attended as a child involved the stupid city park and a lot of self centered children. But really I loved my childhood!
Umm that mystery theater sounds familiar. Did they have you eat some nice sugar cubes before you saw this show? ;-)

i know you’ll have fun in fl with all the fam.
wasn’t there a place called “poppy’s star” that did parties? as i (vaguely) recall, the show was much like what you describe as the “mystery theater”.
i think my favorite parties were the ones where we rented projectors and horrible films. when we were little - before everyone had vcrs and dvds and tivo - that was a cool thing to do.
remember busch gardens, too???

The “Mystery Theater” you reference was a place in Burbank/Glendale called “Genieland.” I had my 5th birthday there and it was, as you state, a pretty surreal spot for kids. You sat on stage in the giant spotted toadstool and got candy from the puppets and characters. Then you retired to a party room where you had to bang on a small sliding door to get the presents your friends brought you.
Anyone else remember this place???
P.S. LOVED Beverly Park and Ponyland too.
