I think I will stick with the Biblical account. I understand it and it makes sense to me.

You said it. We are pretty fucking stupid.  We pay no heed to the precious gift we have been given ... this good green Earth, as one poetic astronaut put it ... and we destroy it with our lack of imagination and intelligence, instead of figuring out a way to peacefully co-exist with the planet.  In the end, the planet will be here; we will not.  And that is the result of intelligent design.
