Take it from a Brit and a friend, you need a cordless electric kettle. We charred so many kettles and pans, we had to make a change. We have a Braun - it heats incredibly quickly, and, if you get distracted and forget you put it on (our problem), it turns off by itself (hey, no smoke). It’s so worth the counter space.
