This is like one of those television programs that I love, but can never remember when it’s on, so I only catch snippets here and there. What terrifies me is that right about the time I get completely sucked in, you’ll wander off with the rest of the story tucked into some dusty corner of your brain, never to be seen again.

This is what terrifies you?  Were all the actually terrifying things already taken?  “Sorry, the dark, snakes, and turning into your parents are all already full.  You can be afraid either that Monty Hall is going to hunt you for food, or that some disoriented pseudoprofessional in frisco won’t share his goofy story with you.” You thought you took the safe way out.  And now look at you.  Terrified. TERRIFIED! Bwah-HA-Ha-Ha-ha-haaa!
