That said, I am all for a Hmoob t-shirt, provided the proceeds go to the Hmong people, or at the very least, a heartfelt “Thank You”.

While paying for parking at the airport tonight, I saw the nameplate of the associate in the booth taking my money:  A. Mboob.

I thought of you and giggled to myself.  She was not as amused.

i don’t know what i would do if confronted with ms. a. mboob, but it’s probably nothing that would win me culturally-sensitive awards.  the poor thing.

off the subject, sort of, i knew a girl in college who wrote for the college newspaper.  lovely girl, first generation of her family to be college-educated, very very proud to have bylines.  and she wrote her whole name, middle initial and all, as we byline-hungry kids all did.  only hers was d.  and her last name was ho.  so every byline read “sophia d. ho.” i wonder where she ended up ...
