Have a Poopy Lunch

Lunch today was unusual for me - I went out and ate with a co-worker.  I was so unused to foraging for myself in this isolated resource-poor neighborhood two blocks from the ferry building in san francisco (south-west, for those of you tracking my movements, the places east of the ferry building are very damp), that I asked another colleague for a restaurant suggestion.  She told us about a spot on 2nd between Market and Mission with cheap chinese steamtable food, and gave us a good idea of the name but wasn’t sure of it.

We found the restaurant easily and ate a lot of food for not much money.  But the name of the place gave me cause for pause.  It’s “B&M Mei Sing Restaurant.” Okay, I respect cross-cultural differences - but this name just made me think of Mr. Hanky all through lunch.  Yummy.  Wipe your mouth.

that's just the way it seemed to me at 02:34 PM

my heart bleeds for you with your slightly-less-than-completely-aesthetically-pleasing chinese food.  at least there is someplace to go!!!

how far are you from 5th and Market?  too far to go for lunch?  Tu Lan.........best vietnamese in town.......the doorway looks and smells like someone lives in it.  while there, don’t look at the floor, it’ll just upset you.

been there my darling and it’s at 6th street - much raunchier.  Helen Jane posted about it a few months ago.  Great Lemon Beef Salad.  And no singing bms.  Well, not till you get out the front door.  I wouldn’t put anything past that neighborhood.

i’m a fan of their veggie fried rice....so yummy! used to go there when i worked on the canvas. i really miss vietnamese food!

6th? really?  thought for sure it was 5th.  oh, well, it’s kitty-corner from the Warfield, more or less.

In future situations like this, remember:  Dandelions and other grasses are edible - just find a nice court yard and crawl around grazing.  It’s a very inexpensive alternative.

I would have second thoughts about that, too.  And to think, traffic would have be much greater if they had the foresight to name the place “S & M Mei Sing” restaurant.  Of course. I have seen menus in chinese restaurants which have the name scratched out and a new name written in—that would work here—it’s just one letter.

curiously, there seems to be a viet place near my house that is leaning in that direction, bill.  Our favorite local pho house has an item on its menu called, in viet, hu tieu tu do (they use the latin alphabet).  The name of this dish as given in translation is Tu Do Ho Fun Soup.  For $4.50, it sounds like a bargain - but don’t go late.

this isn’t strictly related, but i once ate at a restaurant that, instead of napkins, had a roll of toilet paper at every table.  i kept wiping my mouth like i was wiping my butt, and i’ve consequently never gone back.

moral: if you run a restaurant, stay as far away from fecal reference as possible.
