Photographic Memories

I’m a bit behind this morning (thanks, Coach Knight) so I’m going to run with what is already in the can, to use filmic lingo.  In other words, here’s some more of my photos.  You wanted words?  Come back tomorrow, I’ll have a doozy or two for you.  Meantime, if you don’t like the heat, go someplace cooler. 

This one was from 1984 (note the pencilthin necktie on the patriotic fellow), when the Olympics came to LA.  It was one of the best summers of my life.  This was taken on Hollywood Boulevard near Vine Street - the heart of glitzville - during a wonderfully proletarian and uncomplicated parade.

This one is from around 1987, at U.C.Berkeley.  I think it speaks for itself, in that I am about this articulate myself right now.

This one was taken around 1992 at Bodie State Park, a ghost town about 15 miles north-east of Mono Lake, in a desolate and arid plain where 10,000 people used to live.  Now it’s a monument to what was.  It’s a very cool and creepy place, and I actually photographed a ghost there too, but not in this exposure.

The thought of returning tomorrow for the promised doozy is pretty thrilling, so it was hard to give the photos the attention they deserved. However, they’re all strangely beautiful in completely different ways. My hat is off.

I noticed how Bobby Knight and “in the can” both worked themselves into your post today.  You have real issues.

Nice pix.  Creative writers often seem to make creative photographers.  Well done.

i’m intrigued by the berkeley photo.  is it a montage?  a collage?  or a poster or display you photographed like that?

Show me the ghost, you tease!

The Berkeley photo is a student bulletin board that got partly cleared off with a blowtorch.  And Gim, I’m sorry but the ghost photo didn’t make it to the stack I scanned.  It’s just a vague bit of cosmic protoplasm floating in front of some teetering storefronts.  Come on up anytime and I’ll flash it on ya.

Bodie is one of my favorite places. It raises goosebumps on my arms just thinking about it. It’s just so… FULL, you know?

I love that last one. And the middle one is just too psychedelic...love that. :)
