Suspicious
okay I’m moving from confused into suspicious. (So suspicious that I even had to look up the spelling of suspicious because it looked wrong to me.) Dr Andy writes to tell me that the link I lunk on Oct 28 has been disabled - it’s a dead link now. It used to lead to a little movie that raised some interesting questions about the attack on the pentagon on 9/11. He asks if I have any comment about this. I wonder whether it’s just a matter of loading a site up with users - Morford’s link to it must have generated a lot of traffic, it might have crashed a server or exceeded some sort of limitation or something. That’s the benign explanation. The evil explanation involves Tom Ridge, ether, and a sawhorse. Anybody else got a conspiracy theory to spread?
that's just the way it seemed to me at 11:20 AM
It’s a hoax:

see, here’s what gets me all anxious and such - I don’t know you, michelle, and maybe you’ve been at this site before but we arent’ well acquainted. So I was glad to see ya here and I reviewed the Snopes material again (unchanged since Gopi’s earlier reference to it) and then wrote you a short note explaining why I still have a problem with this. But my email bounced back - your address permanently failed and you were “inactive.” So I checked my visitors for the time I got your comment - one from the National Federation of Independent Business, whose website homepage exults in the Bush victory. The other was from “workstation1” at an unknown location. Both were referred to me by an “unknown” site and are reported as spending less than one minute at the ‘hut.
Who are you, Michelle? Can we talk about this? Or are you trying to make me feel anxious? Because I was okay before but this is getting creepy.

You should start wearing your rear-view mirror all the time. To get this kind from The Man is getting scary.

Oh dear...good thing we know people in other countries...if it gets really bad they’ve already told me they’ll hide us.

dan, your paranoia is showing ...
;)
is it possible you haven’t learned rule #4? don’t bother with people who leave anonymous comments. (comments in which the person leaves only an unfamiliar name with an unlinkable email address count as anonymous.) i just spent 45 minutes deleting comments from the last 25 posts of my site (or so), from somebody named, alternately, “rape free” and “rape fiend” and “jungle rape”. i thought about writing a long self-righteous post about people with violent fantasies having too much access to the internet, and decided ultimately it wasn’t worth it. anyway, all of this is to say, see rule #4.
courage.

Update: the site has a new message up that says they’re down due to exceeding bandwidth allocations. How wonderfully benign. THEY’RE STILL WATCHING YOU. Yeah, especially then.
