this one really snuck up on me

39
40
41
42

and yesterday I realized I had barely 24 hours to write a new one.  hell, Jack Bauer can save the free world in less time than that, if you deduct for the commercial breaks.  which brings us to today:

numbered primal, one per POTUS
kick my heinie through my scrotus
wondering if this is really what it means to be alive
optimistic within reason
for all things there is a season
but unclear which one i’m facing now - to sleep or stoup or strive
with potential i’m exploding
is that kierkegaard i’m quoting
i’ll be finished in a minute - can i have some “me” time please
locked and loaded, laser-guided
i will find it if you hide it
and incite a minor riot when i throw away the keys
no one asks me if i’m legal
emperor’s both nude and regal
streaking past the crenellations till they stick me in an urn
give me light and i’ll reflect it
from the dark side i’ve defected
look away or you’ll be blinded by a genius that can burn
deep fried, half baked, hard boiled
in these fields i have toiled
till exhausted fingers falter and i drop my pedigree
let it lie where it has landed
it’s more perfect than i planned it
but for now that must suffice us for today i’m 43!

have a good one, people.  somebody should.

that's just the way it seemed to me at 10:14 PM

happy birthday.
you’re the best.
i hope the day isn’t too too horrible.
eat some cake.
cake is so powerful, it’ll even make data entry seem not so bad.
yeah, okay. i tried. doesn’t that count for something?

Have a wonderful, wonderful day ... and here’s to avoiding that whole ‘heinie through your scrotus’ thing, ‘cause that sounds mighty painful!

I’ve been trapped in a theatre doing lights for a dance concert and missed this...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  I’m so happy you were born and that you know what it feels like to sit in Canters late on a Saturday night or drink coffee at Highland Grounds on a late Sunday morning...we have a home in common, some thoughts in common and an age in common.  I like that...a lot.

43 is a great age! you can vote! you can buy cigarettes! you can go to nightclubs! you can buy beer for kids! heck, you can even have kids! AND you also can go to bed by midnight and everyone considers you normal. You think us twenty nineys get that? HELL NO. 43ers are the awesomest.

happy birthday, friend dan, and thank you for the seat-of-your-pants poem.  sorry for not being a better reader/blog-friend.  it’s been a crazy year.  but you are in my thoughts always, and i hope 43 brings you all kinds of beautiful things and surrounds you with the love you deserve, the love you give.

:)

(and yeah, i’m with patricia on the whole cake issue.  have some cake for me, eh?)
