WHAT SPELL-CHECK WON’T CATCH: I was about to hit “send” on a big email to a program’s Executive Director and my supervisor and my boss when I decided to proofread it one more time. I don’t know what I could have been thinking about, but people who donate free legal services are described as working “pro bono publico,” or “pro bono.” Not “pro boner.” That’s an entirely different kind of donation. It would have made for a very different letter, sternly inquiring whether the program in question continues to operate primarily through the use of hired stiffies. Laudable as such efforts may be, that’s not really the focus of my inquiries. But it would raise an interesting question as to the structure of the org chart…
